What is Tui Na

Tui Na is an oriental bodywork therapy that has been used in China for at least 3,600 years. Often called ‘acupuncture without needles', Tui Na uses the traditional Chinese medical theory of harmonising the flow of ‘Qi' through the meridian lines of the body. The term Tui Na translates into ‘push – grasp' in Chinese and relates to the application of massage and manipulation of the soft tissues. Tui Na is used to treat many disorders from soft tissue / sports injury, repetitive strain to arthritic pain and frozen shoulders. It even doubles up as a thorough sports massage or to relieve work related postural pain.

What to expect

Following a brief discussion regarding the site and nature of the problem area as well as some basic questions regarding general health and any existing conditions you may have, the Tui Na massage will be focused on specific acupressure points, energy trigger points, muscles and joints surrounding the affected area. Don't expect a light, relaxing massage; this therapeutic method goes directly after the problems, sometimes requiring significant pressure. As with most ‘energy based' treatments, the patient either feels relaxed and tired or surprisingly energised by the treatment and release of pain. Treatment is carried out in a seated or lying position, whichever is the most comfortable, and the Tui Na massage is applied through loose clothing or over a towel. It uses no oils or creams so is ideally suited before or after a day in the office or even at lunchtime: no need for a shower after treatment!

Sessions last 45 minutes.
